New prep for RS
Relief Society Council Meeting
October 14, 2018
How to improve our participation in the new “Come, Follow Me for Relief Society” Format
Share Experiences: Many sisters shared experiences based on what they have been doing to follow the prophet from the most recent conference. Pres. Russell M. Nelson asked the sisters of the church to:
Participated in a 10-day fast from social media or other sources that are having a negative impact in our lives.
Sisters in our ward reported increased productivity and focus.
Finish the Book of Mormon by the end of the year.
Sisters are marking every mention of Christ in their Book of Mormon to keep a focus on the Book of Mormon being “Another testament of Jesus Christ.”
Sisters in our ward have calculated how much they need to read each day to meet this goal. It was suggested to search for phone apps that can calculate this for you and keep you on track (such as “Circle: Daily Reading Planner.” Thanks, Paige!).
Establish a pattern of regular temple attendance.
There is a group that goes to the Oquirrh Mountain Temple for sealings on the first Friday of every month at 6:00 PM. Meet upstairs. The Sorensens, Deskins, Evans, and Scotts try to attend this one regularly.
Kristie Scott is making a habit of going to the temple on Fridays during the day. She is open to carpooling with people who would like to attend with her.
Liz Anderson is making a habit of going to the temple on Tuesdays during the day. She is open to carpooling with people who would like to attend with her.
Fully participate in Relief Society.
Take some time to read the Relief Society Purpose Statement and the Relief Society Declaration.
Counsel Together: Topic- How to improve our participation in the new “Come, Follow Me for Relief Society” Format
Review Format
Each RS meeting should follow this pattern:
Share Experiences resulting from impressions and invitations received in pervious priesthood or Relief Society meetings. In our ward, this will be led by the conducting member of the RS presidency before the time is turned over to our discussion leader.
Counsel Together (first Sunday) regarding a topic designated by the ward RS presidency or Learn Together (second, third, and fourth Sundays) by discussing a talk from the most recent General Conference. Our discussions on the second, third, and fourth Sundays should be doctrinally based. Strive to share things based on what you have studied. While it is occasionally appropriate to share experiences based on the topic, our goal is to increase our testimonies of doctrines of Christ. Most experiences shared during Relief Society should take place during the “Share Experiences” portion of our discussion (see above).
Plan to Act: All Sunday RS meetings are meetings of action. We may plan to act as a group or individuals. Listen to what the spirit is telling you to do and make a plan. Remember to be prepared to report back the following week for the Share Experiences portion of our discussion.
Trouble Shooting
Coming prepared
Lesson materials will be sent out by the presidency further in advance. ;-) Thanks for your patience with us!
Reminder of the action plan will be sent out in addition to the study materials.
It was suggested to put a reminder in your phone of what the action plan was and have it alert you a couple days before the discussion, so you can come prepared to share experiences.
Possibly start a ward RS Facebook page so we can share more reminders without “bothering” the entire ward. Sisters can also share their experiences on this page.
Studying: Sisters have had success doing a combination of listening, reading, and highlighting the talks to be discussed. Refer to the study guide questions as you study.
Building unity
Have a note taker during Sunday RS meetings so sisters in other auxiliaries know what was discussed.
Chairs: Return to the circle! Only one row of chairs will be in front of the board. This makes is easier for the discussion leaders to use the board if visual aids are necessary and to have a better view of raised hands. This also allows for a better feeling of unity and open discussion. Remember to be aware of sisters who may need preferred seating.
Plan to Act:
If you are able, help arrange chairs after Sunday School is over.
In preparation for the Share Experiences portion of RS, reflect on what has successful in your studying of the talk for RS.
Study and be prepared to share doctrinal truths during the Learn Together portion of our Sunday discussion. Study Materials Below:
Please Study: “The Powers of the Priesthood,” Dallin H. Oaks, Apr. 2018
https://www.lds.org/general-conference/2018/04/the-powers-of-the-priesthood?lang=eng
As women, what are our roles in the priesthood? How can we exercise those roles?
What are men’s roles in the priesthood?
As you ponder, be aware that not every woman has a priesthood holder in her home.
Follow up on any other impressions you wrote during RS on Sunday.

Elder Bednar recognizing the Spirit
Don't overanalyze.
Invites and entices to do good and to love God.
Study then ask
If decision is wrong, you will be warned once you press forward
Act then power comes, not wait for power or full knowledge than act
Revelation comes most often after we press forward.
It may not be lighting bolt moment; it may just not feel wrong

BELIEVE Christ
We may believe IN Christ, but do we BELIEVE Christ? Do we believe his words? Do we believe all his promises? Do we believe he sacrificed for us?

Revelation RS lesson GV 6 May 12, 2018
Nothing opens the heavens quite like the combination of increased purity, exact obedience, earnest seeking, daily feasting on the words of Christ in the Book of Mormon,14 and regular time committed to temple and family history work.
In coming days, it will not be possible to survive spiritually without the guiding, directing, comforting, and constant influence of the Holy Ghost

Eldder Renlund and Pres Packer quote on doctrine and behavior
Elder Renlund:
President Boyd K. Packer famously said: “True doctrine, understood, changes attitudes and behavior. The study of the doctrines of the gospel will improve behavior quicker than a study of behavior will improve behavior” (Oct. 1986 general conference).
As you evaluate your own behavior, have you ever asked yourself, “What specific doctrine, correctly understood, would motivate me to accept and make necessary changes in my life?”

President Nelson Called
They announced President Nelson as the president of the Church today with Elder Eyring and Oaks as his counselors. At the press conference following the announcement, Pres Nelson said the Church offers knowledge, perspective and hope. President Eyring said they want to have the press see the Church as it really is; they want everyone to see it, although that is difficult even for members at times to understand.
